Update: EOS R First Impressions and Sample images

I'm pleased to announce that I am working in association with Canon South Africa in field testing the relatively new Canon EOS R that was launched on 5 September 2018.

Some of the objectives of working with the EOS R for a few weeks will be the field assessment of the EOS R Autofocus performance and compatibility with current EF lenses (via Mount Adapter EF-EOS R) across different genres and light conditions.

Canon South Africa supplied me with the EOS R (with Mount Adapter EF-EOS R, two professional EF lenses and the Canon Extender EF 1.4x III).

Canon EOS R was launched with four RF lenses for its newly designed RF mount. With the various lens adapters the EOS R is compatible with all current Canon EF and EF-S lenses.

Canon EF Lenses that I will be testing with the Canon EOS R:
  • Canon EF 24-70mm f/4L IS USM lens standard zoom lens
  • Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM telephoto zoom lens (Canon SA)
  • Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM telephoto lens (Canon SA)

Canon Extender / Close-Up lens / Extension Tube
  • Canon Extender EF 1.4x III (Canon SA)
  • Canon 500D 58mm Close-Up Lens
  • Canon EX25 II Extension Tube

The Canon EOS R (30.3 Megapixel / DIGIC 8 image processor) is Canon's first mirrorless Full-Frame body followed by the Canon EOS RP (26.2 Megapixel / DIGIC 8 image processor) that was launched on 13 February 2019.

In a few week I will start publishing the test shoots (over a period of time) with images, EXIF data and my personal experiences / thoughts of my time with the Canon EOS R and the various lenses.

Post-Processing of images
All RAW mages will be post-processed with the recently updated Canon Digital Photo Professional  Version 4.10.0 and Adobe Lightroom CC Version 8.2 (in Windows 10 Professional). Canon Digital Photo Professional Version 4.10.0 available from here. More about Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Ver 8.2 here.

Please note: Canon EOS R is Canon CR3 RAW enabled and the file format may not be compatible with older versions of Canon DPP and Lightroom.
