Visual Ethics in Nature Photography

Image
Role of Visual Ethics in Nature Photography Explore visual ethics in nature photography through authenticity, perception and ethical image-making grounded in observation and conscious intent. A Framework of Authentic Representation "Nature photography occupies a unique position within the visual arts. It is both observational and interpretive, requiring the photographer to engage with dynamic, uncontrolled environments while making deliberate compositional and technical decisions. As digital tools have expanded the possibilities of image manipulation, the question of ethical responsibility has become increasingly relevant. What constitutes an authentic image? At what point does enhancement become alteration? This essay proposes that visual ethics in nature photography is not defined by technological limitation, but by intentional restraint. It argues for a framework grounded in authenticity, environmental awareness, and disciplined post-processing—principles that prioritise repres...

Milnerton Lagoon Water Quality and Rehabilitation Update – May 2026 Milnerton Lagoon Pollution Report – 31 May 2026. An environmental update on water quality, rehabilitation efforts, infrastructure upgrades and recovery. Water Quality Updates Milnerton Lagoon Disclaimer Water Quality and Rehabilitation Update The Milnerton Lagoon, situated at the mouth of the Diep River in Cape Town, remains one of South Africa’s most environmentally contested estuarine systems. Located adjacent to Woodbridge Island and forming part of the broader Table Bay Nature Reserve network, the lagoon has become a focal point for ongoing concerns regarding sewage contamination, deteriorating water quality, ecological degradation, and public health risks. By 31 May 2026, substantial municipal interventions, infrastructure upgrades, environmental monitoring programmes, and rehabilitation initiatives have been implemented. Nevertheless, pollution pressures continue to affect the ecological integrity of the system. ...

Vernon Chalmers on Photography and Presence

Image
Phenomenological Seeing, Existential Awareness and Aesthetic Mindfulness Vernon Chalmers’ philosophy of Photography and Presence represents a profound synthesis of phenomenological seeing, existential awareness and aesthetic mindfulness. Double-Coloured Sunbird : Kirstenbosch Garden, Cape Town “ A sunbird perched on a strelitzia, reminding us that beauty isn’t measured in size - but in presence .” - Vernon Chalmers " My camera is no longer a device. It is a pulse. A breath. A witness to the slow unfolding of a consciousness that no longer rushes."  - Vernon Chalmers Explores Vernon Chalmers’ notion of Photography and Presence as a meditative - existential inquiry into perception, awareness, and the phenomenology of lived experience. Drawing from phenomenology, existential philosophy, and the psychology of attention, Chalmers’ photographic practice is interpreted as an embodied form of consciousness - one that situates the act of photographing within the immediacy of being. Future of Canon EOS R Cameras with AI Future APS-C, Full-Frame Bodies and System Architecture  Introduction: A Forward-Looking Canon Strategy "Canon’s EOS R system is entering a phase where future bodies are no longer defined by incremental specification upgrades, but by architectural intent and computational capability . While the first generation of RF cameras established market presence, the next generation—spanning 2026 to 2027—will define Canon’s long-term competitive position. The emphasis has shifted toward: AI-integrated autofocus systems Multi-layer processing architectures Sensor specialization across tiers Convergence of stills and video platforms This analysis focuses specifically on future Canon EOS R bodies , examining expected releases, archit...

Canon CR2 vs CR3 RAW Files

Image
Canon CR2 and CR3 RAW File Differences A technical comparison of Canon CR2 and CR3 RAW file formats, explaining differences in structure, compression, file size, C-RAW capability and performance for DSLR and mirrorless workflows. A comparison of the Canon CR2 and CR3 RAW file formats, highlighting differences in compression, file size, storage efficiency, burst shooting performance, software compatibility, and workflow optimization for DSLR and mirrorless photography. A Technical and Practical Comparison for Canon Photographers "The evolution of digital photography is not limited to sensor resolution, autofocus sophistication, or burst rates. Equally significant—though less visible—is the architecture of the RAW file itself. For Canon photographers, the transition from CR2 to CR3 marks a structural shift that directly affects storage efficiency, workflow speed, and long-term archival strategy. While both formats preserve unprocessed sensor data, they differ in container design, co...

MarineTraffic Website for Marine Traffic Information

A Global Window into Maritime Activity Explore MarineTraffic for real-time marine traffic information, vessel tracking, port data, and AIS insights for global maritime monitoring. Strait of Hormuz Iran Real-Time Ship / Vessel Tracking Image Credit : The  MarineTraffic  Website Ship Spotting as Photography Hobby I stumbled upon this maritime website searching for the three vessels I have spotted in Table Bay, Cape Town. Very interesting static information from their AIS (Automatic Identification System) with near real-time location / movement of most marine traffic across the world. MarineTraffic appeals to hobbyists, ship spotters, and the general public. I went on the register as a ship spotting  photographer. As a registered MarineTraffic photographer I may uploaded my images of marine traffic entering or existing the Port of Cape Town ito of ships / vessels identified via the website. Matter of fact anybody can upload an image of a vessel / ship meeting (Mar...
